The DRAGON PE 420-5 is a beam saw built to break down full-size panels into finished parts in one controlled pass. Panels are pushed into the saw line by a servo-driven pusher group running at up to 45 m/min, while the saw carriage travels at up to 70 m/min beneath a pneumatically clamped top pressure beam. Cutting depth is 4200 mm and cutting height is 90 mm, which covers standard chipboard and MDF sheet sizes as well as stacked cutting for repeat parts.
Cutting power and blades
The DRAGON PE 420-5 carries the heaviest saw package in the DRAGON beam saw range: a 15 kW main saw motor turning a Ø400 x 4.4 mm blade at 2945 RPM, backed by a 2.2 kW scoring saw with a Ø200 x 4.4 mm blade at 2870 RPM. The larger main blade is what allows the 90 mm cutting height. Saw group and pusher group each use a 1.8 kW servo motor, and a 4 kW turbine fan serves the extraction circuit.
How the DRAGON PE 420-5 compares in the range
Against the DRAGON PE 420-4, the PE 420-5 trades a smaller footprint for more cutting capacity: 90 mm of cutting height instead of 72 mm, a Ø400 mm main blade instead of Ø350 mm, and a 40 kW total connected load instead of 29 kW. Against the smaller DRAGON PE 383, the PE 420-5 offers 4200 mm of cutting depth instead of 3800 mm and double the main saw power. Workshops that only size 3800 mm boards will find the PE 383 sufficient.
Installation requirements
Installing the DRAGON PE 420-5 is a building decision, not a bench decision. The machine measures 7660 x 8900 x 2100 mm, the supplier specifies a 68 m² working area, and the machine weighs 7500 kg, so a level industrial floor and crane or forklift access are needed. Services required are a 400 V 50 Hz three-phase supply at 80 A nominal current and compressed air at 6 bar. Extraction connects through one Ø100 mm port under the saw group and three Ø100 mm ports above the pressure beam.
