Sanding Belts for Holzmann Belt, Drum and Edge Sanders

A sanding belt is the wear part of every belt, drum and edge sander - the abrasive does the cutting, the machine only holds it and feeds it. We stock 147 sanding belt SKUs for Holzmann sanders, in grits from K40 for heavy stock removal through to K240 for finishing, in every belt size the range uses: 1220 x 150 mm for the BT1220, 2740 x 100 mm drum strips for the ZS635 NEO, 457 x 1003 mm wide belts for the 455 mm drum, and more. Mixed-grit sets (1 x K60, 3 x K80, 3 x K100, 3 x K120) cover most machines, and graphite backing bands are stocked in 150 and 200 mm. Send us your machine model for prices and availability.

Holzmann BT-series belt and disc sanders (BT46, BT46 ECO, BT75, BT150-914, BT203-914, BT1220, BT1220 TOP), ZS-series drum, cylinder and edge sanders (ZS400U, ZS560U, ZS635 NEO, ZS640P, ZS970P, ZS560FU), KOS2600 combination sanders, 455 mm wide-belt/drum machines, OSS200 oscillating spindle sanders (sleeve sets K120/K180/K240) and PSM parquet sanding machines. Belt part numbers carry the machine code, so SB1220... fits the BT1220, SBBT75... the BT75 and SBZS635NEO... the ZS635 NEO.

Grit K40-K60 Heavy stock removal: levelling glue lines after pressing, taking down proud edges, working down rough-sawn or badly machined stock. Leaves deep scratches that later grits must remove.
Grit K80-K100 The everyday working grit. Removes planer and moulder marks and the scratch pattern left by K40-K60 without eating dimension.
Grit K120-K150 Pre-finish pass. The last grit before stain or lacquer on most hardwoods, and the right grit for cleaning up MDF and veneered board without cutting through.
Grit K180-K240 Finishing and intermediate lacquer sanding. Available on the SBL100, SLW, SBR455B and ZS drum-strip sizes; not offered in every belt size.
Mixed-grit set (1 x K60, 3 x K80, 3 x K100, 3 x K120) The best first order for a new machine. Covers a full progression and shows within a few weeks which grit your work actually consumes, so the next order is right.
Belt size Fixed by the machine, never by the job. Order by the machine code in the part number: SB1220 for the BT1220, SBBT75 for the BT75, SBZS635NEO for the ZS635 NEO, SBR455B for the 455 mm drum.
Graphite backing band GB150 / GB200 Fits under the belt on platen sanders to cut friction and heat. Replace when belts begin to grab or burn with no other explanation. Supplied 150 or 200 mm wide, 1 m rolls.
Order quantity Abrasive is a consumable, not a spare part. A working shop should hold a box of its two main grits rather than single belts, and box pricing is better than single-belt pricing.

How to choose the right sanding belt

A sanding belt is chosen on two axes and only two: the size, which your machine decides for you, and the grit, which the job decides. Everything else follows from those.

Size: take it from the machine, not the workpiece

Every belt in this range is coded to its parent machine, which makes reordering simple once you know the code. SB1220 belts (1220 x 150 mm) are for the BT1220 belt and disc sander, SB46 for the BT46, SBBT75 for the BT75, SBR455B (457 x 1003 mm) for the 455 mm wide drum, and the SBZS codes for the ZS drum and edge sanders – SBZS635NEO, for example, is the 2740 x 100 mm strip for the ZS635 NEO. Other sizes stocked include 2000 x 150 mm and the SBPSM belts for parquet sanding machines. If the old belt is still readable the size is printed on the back; if not, send us the machine model and serial plate and we will identify the belt for you.

Grit: work down in steps

Grits stocked run K40, K60, K80, K100, K120, K150, K180 and K240, although not every belt size carries every grit. The usual progression is K60-K80 to level and remove machining marks, K100-K120 to clean up, then K150 and finer before finishing. Do not skip more than one step: going from K60 straight to K150 leaves scratches the finer belt cannot reach, and re-sanding costs more time than the skipped grit would have. A mixed set (1 x K60, 3 x K80, 3 x K100, 3 x K120) is the sensible first order for a new sander.

When to change a belt

Change the belt when it stops cutting, not when it looks dirty. The signs of a dead belt are a burnished, glossy surface on the workpiece, scorch marks, and the operator pushing harder – which loads the machine and glazes the abrasive further. Coarse belts in a busy joinery are a shift-to-a-few-shifts item; fine grits last longer because they carry less load. Resin loading from softwood and MDF can be cleaned off with a rubber cleaning stick and buys real extra life.

Graphite backing bands

GB150 and GB200 are graphite backing bands, 150 and 200 mm wide in 1 m rolls, fitted between the belt and the platen on platen-type sanders. Worn graphite means friction, heat and burn marks, so it is replaced as routine maintenance when belts start burning for no other reason.

What moves the price

Belt price is driven by size – a 457 x 1003 mm wide belt is a multiple of a 1220 x 150 mm – then by grit and abrasive grain, by whether you order single belts or a 10-piece mixed set, by order quantity and box pricing, and by delivery to your site. Tell us the machine, the grits you use and roughly what you consume per month, and we will quote both per belt and per box.

How do I find the right sanding belt size for a sander I already own?

The easiest way to find the right sanding belt size is to read the old belt: the length x width and grit are printed on the backing, for example 1220 x 150 x K100. If the old belt is gone, the belt part number carries the machine code - SB1220 belts fit the BT1220, SBBT75 belts fit the BT75, SBZS635NEO strips fit the ZS635 NEO. Send us the machine model and the number from the serial plate and we will confirm the correct sanding belt before you order.

Which grit sanding belt should I start with?

For most work, start the sanding belt sequence at K80. Use K40-K60 sanding belts only when there is real material to remove - glue lines after pressing, rough-sawn stock, proud edges - then step through K100-K120 and finish at K150 or finer. Skipping more than one grit leaves scratches the next belt cannot remove, so the shortcut usually costs time rather than saving it.

How often do sanding belts need replacing?

A sanding belt is replaced when it stops cutting, which in a busy joinery can mean a coarse belt lasting a single shift and a finishing belt lasting several. The signals are a glossy, burnished workpiece, burn marks and the operator leaning harder into the machine. Resin loading on softwood and MDF can be cleaned off with a rubber cleaning stick, which extends belt life, but a genuinely worn belt should be changed rather than nursed.

What happens if I fit the wrong sanding belt?

A sanding belt that is the wrong length will not tension, and one that is the wrong width will run off the drums and tear, sometimes taking the tracking adjustment or the platen graphite with it. A belt that is the right size but too coarse for the job leaves scratches that show through lacquer, and one that is too fine burns and glazes instead of cutting. Both problems are avoided by ordering the belt by the machine code.

Do you supply mixed-grit sanding belt sets?

Yes. Mixed sanding belt sets are stocked for most machine sizes and contain 1 x K60, 3 x K80, 3 x K100 and 3 x K120 - ten belts covering a complete progression. Sets are listed under the same machine code as the singles, for example SB1220SET, SBBT75SET and SB2740SET, and they are the usual first order alongside a new sander.

How do I order sanding belts and how long is the lead time?

Send us the machine model, the belt size and the grits and quantities you need, and we will come back with a written quotation for the sanding belts including delivery. Common sizes and grits are usually held in stock in Georgia for immediate release; less common sizes, higher grits and full-box quantities are ordered in and typically arrive within a few weeks. We will confirm the exact lead time per line on the quotation.
