The HOLZMANN LBM290 is the mortiser to buy first. At 97 kg net the LBM290 is the lightest of HOLZMANN’s floor-standing slot mortisers, yet it keeps the full 290 mm drilling width of the far heavier LBM290K, so a small joinery shop gets production-class reach without a 205 kg machine on the floor. The LBM290 is available as LBM290_230V for single-phase workshops and LBM290_400V for three-phase, which makes it the flexible choice for Georgian premises where the supply is not guaranteed.
Table travel that does the work for you
Feel is where the LBM290 justifies itself over a drill press with a mortising attachment. Table travel on the LBM290 is precise and easy-gliding, operated by a multi-bedded lever, and table height is adjusted through a dove tail guidance that runs smoothly and locks at individual defined positions. That combination lets an operator cut a slot in controlled passes rather than forcing the bit, which is what keeps a 140 mm deep mortise straight.
Capacity in context
The LBM290 works within a clearly defined envelope. Maximum drilling width on the LBM290 is 290 mm and maximum depth is 140 mm, the table measures 500 x 210 mm and the table stroke is 140 mm, all driven by a 3100 W (S6) / 2200 W (S1) motor. For window frames, cabinet rails, bed frames and standard door components this is ample; for through-mortises in heavy gate stock the deeper LBM250C is the correct machine.
Storage and setup
The LBM290 is designed to be lived with. A machine base cabinet holds toolings so bits and chisels stay at the machine rather than in a drawer across the shop, the pin drilling device offers four defined dowel positions, and a mitre fence with left-right run is fitted for angled and serial work.
Choosing between the LBM290 and the LBM290K
Both machines reach 290 mm wide, so the decision is about duty rather than capacity. The LBM290K adds a 5300 W (S6) two-speed head, 155 mm of depth and optional extension tables reaching a 2600 mm envelope, at 140 kg. The LBM290 gives the same width at 97 kg and 3100 W (S6) single speed, for shops mortising in batches rather than continuously. If door leaves and long frames pass through your shop daily, specify the LBM290K; if they do not, the LBM290 is the machine that fits.
