The HOLZMANN LBM290K is a slot mortising machine with pattern bar offering 290 mm drilling width, 155 mm drilling depth and a two-speed 1400/2800 rpm head rated 5300 W (S6). Available in 400 V three-phase and 230 V single-phase versions, the LBM290K accepts three extension tables to reach a working envelope of 2600 x 1530 mm.

The HOLZMANN LBM290K is the machine to specify when mortising is a daily production job rather than an occasional one. The LBM290K carries a 5300 W (S6) / 3800 W (S1) motor with two spindle speeds of 1400 and 2800 min-1, which is roughly 70 percent more short-time power than the standard LBM290, and that reserve is what stops the head stalling in deep cuts in oak and beech. Drilling depth on the LBM290K reaches 155 mm against 140 mm on the standard model.
Two speeds, two jobs
The dual speed of the LBM290K is a practical feature, not a specification-sheet one. The lower 1400 min-1 setting suits large-diameter mortise bits and hardwood, where torque matters more than surface speed, while 2800 min-1 gives a cleaner cut with small bits in softwood and man-made board. A single-speed mortiser forces a compromise; the LBM290K does not.
Working envelope and door work
The LBM290K is built to swallow parts far larger than its own table. The base machine measures 800 x 900 x 1500 mm, but with the optional three extension tables and supporting legs the LBM290K extends to a working envelope of 2600 x 1530 x 1500 mm, which is where door leaves, long window frames and staircase strings become manageable by one person. The front extension table measures 600 x 300 mm and the side tables 595 x 260 mm.
Repeat drilling and dowelling
Repeatability on the LBM290K comes from stops rather than measurement. Dual-sided adjustable longitudinal end stops with left-right run let a setter fix both ends of a mortise and produce identical parts in series, and the pin drilling device provides four defined positions at 16, 20, 22 and 25 mm for standard dowel spacings. An adapter for mortising drills is included with the LBM290K.
What to plan for before the LBM290K arrives
The LBM290K is a 140 kg floor-standing machine, so plan its position rather than shuffling it later – especially if the extension tables are fitted, since the extended envelope needs 2.6 m of clear length. Choose the voltage carefully: the LBM290K_400V is the version for a shop with three-phase supply and delivers the motor’s full character, while the LBM290K_230V exists specifically for Georgian workshops on single-phase only. Mortise bits, chisels and dowel drills are a separate tooling budget.
