სახარატო ჩარხი
A wood lathe turns a blank between centres or on a faceplate to produce legs, balusters, handles, bowls and turned repairs. This category holds 7 HOLZMANN lathes, from the 16.5 kg D500VECO and the 19 kg D300F up to the 119 kg floor-standing VD1100N with its pivoting headstock and copying option. Between-centres capacity runs from 305 mm to 1100 mm, centre height from 105 mm to 185 mm, and speed control ranges from a five-step belt drive to a frequency converter opening at 250 min-1. Every lathe here is supplied on quotation.

Between centres and centre height decide the wood lathe
Two numbers do most of the choosing. Between-centres capacity fixes the longest spindle: 305 mm on the D300F, 460 mm on the D460, D460F and D460FXL, 500 mm on the D500VECO, 510 mm on the D510F and 1100 mm on the VD1100N. Centre height fixes the largest diameter: 105, 130, 153, 160, 175 and 185 mm respectively across the D300F, the D460 pair, the D460FXL, the D510F, the D500VECO and the VD1100N. A chair leg will not fit on a 305 mm bed, so buy for the longest and widest work the shop takes in.
How the speed is set matters more than the top speed
Speed control is the second decision and it changes daily working more than headline rpm does. The D460 has five fixed belt steps from 600 to 2800 min-1 and the D500VECO four from 890 to 2600 min-1: a belt change costs a minute but gives full torque at every step. The D300F is stepless from 750 to 3200 min-1, the D460F and D460FXL stepless within three ranges to 3800 min-1, the D460FXL adding a digital readout. The D510F is inverter driven from 250 min-1, the lowest floor here, exactly what a heavy unbalanced blank needs at start-up.
Power supply, bench and floor space for a wood lathe
Wood lathes are the least demanding machines in a joinery electrically. The D300F draws 250 W, the D500VECO 300 W, the D460 and D460F 600 W at S6, the D460FXL 770 W at S6 and the D510F 735 W, all on 230 V single-phase, so no three-phase connection is needed. Only the VD1100N, rated 1100 W at S6 and 750 W at S1, comes in both 230 V and 400 V versions. Mounting matters more than power: the benchtop machines weigh 16.5 to 55 kg and must be bolted to a heavy bench, since a light table transmits vibration straight into the finish.
Extraction and dust around a wood lathe
A wood lathe throws shavings rather than the fine dust a saw or planer makes, so it is not ducted into a fixed extraction system – a bin and brush handle turning waste. The dust problem starts when sanding on the lathe, which produces the respirable fraction that harms lungs, so plan a mobile extractor or a hood behind the work for that stage. No lathe here is supplied with extraction.
Chisels, chucks and spindle threads have to be budgeted
Check the interfaces before ordering tooling. Six of the seven lathes use an M33 spindle thread, so M33 chucks and faceplates interchange; the D500VECO is M18 x 2.5 mm but ships with an M33 x 3.5 adapter. Tailstock tapers differ: MT1 with 35 mm of quill travel on the D300F, MT2 with 55 mm on the 460 family, 60 mm on the VD1100N and 90 mm on the D510F. Chisels are included only with the D500VECO; every other lathe needs a chisel set and chuck quoted separately.
What separates the cheap end of the range from the expensive end
Mass, drive and capacity are what the money buys. The 16.5 kg D500VECO is a carry-anywhere machine for hobby turning and occasional parts, with no electronic speed control. Above it sit cast iron benchtop lathes whose weight damps an out-of-round blank, and at the top the 119 kg VD1100N pivots its headstock 90 degrees clear of the bed for discs larger than its 185 mm centre height and takes a copying device. Bed extensions are offered for the D460FXL (460 to 920 mm) and the D510F (D510FBVL, +644 mm).
როგორ ავირჩიოთ
- Between centres 305-1100 mm
- Measure the longest spindle you turn. 305 mm (D300F) covers handles and pens; 460-510 mm covers chair legs; only the 1100 mm VD1100N takes a full baluster or bed post.
- Centre height 105-185 mm
- Centre height sets bowl diameter. Take the 153 mm D460FXL or 175 mm D500VECO for bowls on a bench; the VD1100N pivots its headstock 90 degrees for larger discs.
- Belt steps, stepless or inverter
- Belt steps (D460, D500VECO) give full torque and cost least; stepless drives (D300F, D460F, D460FXL) save belt changes; the inverter on the D510F holds torque down to 250 min-1.
- Lowest usable speed
- Roughing a heavy, out-of-round blank needs a low start. The D510F opens at 250 min-1, the D460 at 600 min-1 and the VD1100N at 500 min-1; a high-minimum lathe will judder.
- Spindle thread M33 or M18
- Six of the seven lathes use M33, so chucks and faceplates interchange. The D500VECO is M18 x 2.5 mm and relies on the supplied M33 x 3.5 adapter for standard accessories.
- Tailstock taper and quill travel
- MT2 is the workshop standard and fits the 460 family, D510F and VD1100N. The D300F is MT1 with 35 mm travel, so MT2 centres and drill chucks will not fit it.
- Bench mounting or floor standing
- Benchtop lathes from 16.5 to 55 kg must be bolted to a heavy bench to turn cleanly; the 119 kg VD1100N stands on cast iron legs at a 900 mm working height.
- Bed extension and copying option
- Specify the 460 mm extension for the D460FXL (to 920 mm) or the D510FBVL for the D510F (+644 mm) if long work is occasional; the VD1100N takes a copying device for repeat sets.
