ფართოლენტიანი საშკურკი (კალიბრატორი)
A wide belt calibrating sander removes the steps and glue lines from an assembled panel and brings the whole surface to one thickness, doing evenly what hand sanding cannot do at all. This category holds 1 HOLZMANN machine, the R455B: an open-ended drum sander that sands 457 mm wide in a single pass and up to 914 mm by turning the workpiece and running it through again, taking stock from 6 to 127 mm thick on a 2.2 kW induction motor and a 400 V three-phase supply. The R455B is supplied by quotation, with its abrasive package, extraction requirement and installation agreed in advance.

What a calibrating sander is for
A calibrating sander sets thickness and finish in one operation. Once a solid-wood panel has been glued up, the joints sit slightly proud, the boards are never perfectly level, and a thicknesser leaves knife marks and risks tear-out on reversing grain. A wide belt calibrating sander such as the HOLZMANN R455B feeds the panel under a rotating abrasive drum against a powered conveyor, removing a controlled amount across the full width so the finished panel is flat, parallel and ready for finishing. The R455B is the only machine in this category.
Capacity: what the R455B will and will not take
Width is the first question and the open-ended design is the answer. The R455B sands 457 mm in a single pass, and because the drum housing is open on one side a panel up to 914 mm wide can be sanded by turning it end for end and passing it through a second time. That doubles usable width at the cost of an extra pass and careful setting, so a shop running full-width tops every day is better served by a wider machine; a shop making doors, drawer fronts, shelves and worktop sections is well matched. Thickness capacity runs from 6 to 127 mm, which covers everything from thin panel stock to laminated worktop.
Calibrating sander or thicknesser
A calibrating sander does not replace a thicknesser. Removing several millimetres of stock is a planing job and should stay on a thicknesser; the R455B is for the last fraction of a millimetre and for surfaces where knife marks or tear-out are unacceptable. Most workshops that buy an R455B already own a thicknesser and keep both.
Power supply, floor space and extraction
Mains supply is a hard constraint on the R455B: the 2.2 kW induction motor runs on 400 V three-phase, so a single-phase workshop needs a three-phase connection arranged before installation. Confirm the supply at the machine position before the quotation is prepared, because that work affects both cost and layout.
Floor space is governed by the panel, not the machine. Allow clear infeed and outfeed room equal to the longest panel you sand plus operator space at both ends, since a panel has to be supported the whole way through. Extraction is mandatory rather than advisable – sanding a wide panel generates a large volume of fine dust in a short time, and an undersized extractor loads the abrasive, spoils the finish and fills the shop. Specify the extractor and ducting in the same quotation as the machine.
Abrasives and cost drivers
Abrasive belts are the running cost of a calibrating sander and are budgeted separately from the machine. Stock at least a coarse grit for levelling and a finer grit for finishing, and change belts before they glaze rather than after. What moves the quoted price of an R455B is the abrasive package, the extraction equipment specified with the machine, delivery to your site and the installation and commissioning work, not the sanding head itself.

-
Panel width up to 457 mm
Single pass on the R455B. Doors, drawer fronts, shelves and narrow tops go straight through without repositioning.
-
Panel width 457-914 mm
Still possible on the R455B by turning the panel end for end and running it through a second time, thanks to the open-ended drum housing. Allow the extra pass in your cycle time.
-
Panel width above 914 mm
Beyond the R455B. Look at the wider drum calibrating sanders in the belt, disc and drum sander category, up to 970 mm sanding width.
-
Workpiece thickness 6-127 mm
The full range the R455B accepts, from thin panel stock to laminated worktop. Anything thinner or thicker has to be handled another way.
-
400 V three-phase supply
Required: the 2.2 kW induction motor of the R455B is a three-phase machine. Arrange the supply before installation rather than after delivery.
-
Stock removal needed
Use a thicknesser for millimetres and the R455B for the final fraction of a millimetre. A calibrating sander is a finishing machine, not a planing machine.
-
Extraction capacity
Size the extractor for the volume of fine dust a full-width pass produces. Undersized extraction glazes the belt, spoils the surface and shortens abrasive life.
