How to choose a CNC laser cutting and engraving machine
Bed size, not laser power, decides between the two CNC laser machines on this page. The CL4060 and the CL6090 share the same up-to-80 W CO2 laser class and the same 200 mm of Z travel, so the real question is how large a sheet you want to lay down: 400 x 600 mm on the CL4060, or 600 x 900 mm on the CL6090, which is 2.25 times the working area.
What working area do you actually need?
Size the working area from the largest single part you cut, not from the sheet you buy. The CL4060 at 400 x 600 mm covers signage, inlay, badges, small boxes and sample work. The CL6090 at 600 x 900 mm takes larger sign panels, model kits and furniture decoration in one placement. Repositioning a part mid-job costs accuracy and time, so if your parts routinely exceed 600 mm in one direction, the CL6090 is the honest answer rather than the CL4060.
Power supply: both laser machines are single-phase
Neither CNC laser machine on this page needs a three-phase board. The CL4060 runs on 230 V and the CL6090 on 230 V / 50(60) Hz, which is why a laser is often the first CNC machine a small Georgian joinery, sign shop or studio installs. Provide a stable, properly earthed circuit: laser electronics and the built-in water cooler do not tolerate voltage dips well.
Floor space, extraction and cooling
Both laser machines need extraction, and neither includes the extractor. The CL4060 occupies 1150 x 850 x 980 mm at 105 kg net; the CL6090 occupies 1440 x 1050 x 990 mm at 140 kg net. Each has a Ø150 mm dust collector port, which is a connection point only, so a fume and dust extraction unit plus a short, sealed duct run to outside air is a separate purchase. Cooling, by contrast, is already covered: both machines include a water cooler rated 1400 W cooling capacity with a 48 W pump, a 650 W compressor and a 6 litre tank, so no external chiller is required. Leave clear working room on the side you load from and behind the cabinet for the exhaust connection.
What you budget outside the machine
Budget the extraction unit and its ducting, an air supply if you use air assist, a honeycomb or slat support for the material you cut, and consumables. RDWorks operating software is supplied for self-installation, so allow time for setup and for building your own cut and engrave parameter tables per material and thickness. On any CO2 machine the laser tube, lenses and mirrors are wear parts and belong in the running cost, not in the purchase price.
What separates the small machine from the large one
Between these two CNC laser machines the cost difference follows cabinet size, mass and bed area rather than beam power, because both share the same up-to-80 W CO2 class. HOLZMANN quotes positioning accuracy under 0.01 mm on the CL4060, and both models are rated to a minimum character size of 2 x 2 / 1 x 1 mm. The CL6090 asks more because it is a larger, 140 kg machine moving a wider gantry over a bigger bed, not because it cuts thicker material.
