What a door lock and hinge mortiser does

A door lock and hinge mortiser cuts the hardware seats into the edge of a finished door leaf: the lock body pocket, the handle and faceplate recess, and the hinge seats. It comes last, after sizing, edging and often after finishing, which is why it is the operation most likely to spoil a leaf that already carries most of its value. All three MIZRAK machines here clamp the leaf and guide the cutter mechanically, so depth and position no longer depend on a router, a template and a steady hand.

Choosing between the three machines

Choose on two questions: whether you need hinge seats as well as lock seats, and whether you need documented capacities before ordering. The MZK Kapi Kilit is the base machine and prepares the lock seat only. The Kapi Kilit ve Mentese is catalogued as a combined lock and hinge machine, taking both cuts without releasing the leaf, which is the argument for it over two separate stations. Mizrak publishes no technical table for either, so electrical rating, air requirement, seat lengths and installed dimensions are confirmed in writing at enquiry rather than estimated from a sibling machine.

The fully specified machine

The MZK Kapi Kilit Plus is the only machine in this group with a published specification, and the one to quote when figures are needed on paper. Lock seat length adjusts from 0 to 200 mm, faceplate milling from 0 to 250 mm and hinge seats from 0 to 125 mm, all at one clamping, on three motors: 2.2 kW at 1500 rpm for the lock seat, 1.1 kW for the handle recess and 1.1 kW at 12000 rpm for the hinges.

Check the hardware before the machine

Hardware standards decide whether a machine fits your production. The lock and handle axes on the MZK Kapi Kilit Plus are fixed 96 mm apart, so the mortise locks you buy must use that centre distance. Before ordering, list the lock case lengths, faceplate sizes and hinge types you actually fit and have them confirmed in writing against the machine.

Power, air and floor space

Lock machines are the modest end of a door line. Total electrical power on the MZK Kapi Kilit Plus is 5.5 kW, which most workshops with an existing three-phase board can add without upgrading the supply, and at 2500 x 1600 mm and 900 kg the machine fits along a wall rather than claiming a bay. Compressed air at 6 to 8 atm is needed for clamping, so a shop with no compressor must budget for one. Allow clear space either side for a two-metre leaf to be presented and turned, and plan chip collection at the cutter.

Mechanical setting or programmed positions

Mechanically set lock machines are cheaper to own and faster to learn, and that is the trade. The MZK Kapi Kilit Plus is set with stops rather than programmed, which suits a shop running one or two standard hardware layouts. A workshop switching layouts week to week should also have the PC-controlled Ripper CNC KKM quoted, since recalled programs change layout faster than stops. Where the sizing machine already carries a lock group, as on the MZK NC RIPPER KK, a separate lock station may not be needed.

What to send with a quotation request

A useful quotation needs your door specification, not just a model name. Send the leaf thickness and height range, the lock cases and hinges you fit, the number of doors per month, your electrical supply and whether compressed air is available.
