What a five-operation combination machine gives a small joinery

One footprint instead of four is the point. A five-operation machine carries a circular saw, a spindle moulder, a surface planer and a thicknesser in one frame with a rotary switch selecting the live unit, and slot mortising is added as the fifth operation by the optional HOB310ECOLL attachment on the K5260SMART, K5260PSMW2 and K5310VPSMW2. Accept the trade-off before ordering: every mode change costs setup time, so a shop running two processes alternately all day will produce more on separate machines. For a joinery whose building will not hold four, the combination makes the work possible at all.

Panel work or solid timber decides which of the four models to quote

Trimming length sorts these four machines faster than any other figure. The K5260SMART offers 380 mm of trimming travel on a 400 x 250 mm sliding table and is a solid-timber machine – windows, doors, stair parts, furniture rails – as is the K5260L on its 250 x 400 mm table. The K5260PSMW2 steps up to 1300 mm on a 1320 x 238 mm slider with a 680 x 530 mm outrigger. The K5310VPSMW2 reaches 2000 mm and is the only model here with a scoring unit, a 100 mm scoring blade at 850 rpm ahead of the 315 mm main blade, which is what makes melamine-faced board and veneered ply viable. Rip capacity follows the same order: 510 mm on the K5260L, 710 mm on the K5260SMART and K5260PSMW2, 780 mm on the K5310VPSMW2.

Cutterblock: straight knives or a carbide spiral head

Decide the cutterblock second, because it sets both finish quality and running cost. The K5260SMART plans with three full-width knives on a 70 mm shaft at 5500 rpm and the K5260L with a 75 mm three-knife block at 4500 rpm on pre-mounted HSS knives, which keeps purchase and re-knifing cost down at the price of a coarser, louder cut on figured hardwood. The K5260PSMW2 runs a 70 mm spiral block with 24 indexable carbide inserts and the K5310VPSMW2 a 310 mm block with 30. A spiral block tears out less, runs quieter and lets one damaged insert be rotated instead of a whole knife set reset.

Power supply, extraction and noise

All four models are offered in 230 V single-phase and 400 V three-phase versions, so a workshop without three-phase supply is not excluded. Motor ratings are 2.2 / 1.5 / 2.2 kW for saw, shaper and planer on the K5260SMART and K5260PSMW2; 2200 / 1500 / 1500 W at S1 on the K5260L; and 3.0 / 3.0 / 2.2 kW on the K5310VPSMW2, where three-phase is the sensible specification wherever supply allows. Extraction is 100 / 100 / 32 mm on the 260 mm machines and 100 / 100 / 40 mm on the K5310VPSMW2, connected before commissioning. Sound power is rated 103 dB(A), so hearing protection is not optional.

Floor space and what the building must provide

Footprint separates the group as sharply as capacity: 1640 x 1350 x 1150 mm at 335 kg for the K5260SMART, 375 kg for the K5260L, a 1320 x 2330 mm plan at 362 kg for the K5260PSMW2 and 2000 x 2370 x 1100 mm at 516 kg for the K5310VPSMW2. All need a level slab and clear run-off at both ends of the carriage.

What to budget beyond the machine

Saw blades, a scoring blade on the K5310VPSMW2, 30 mm bore moulder cutters, spare carbide inserts or knife sets, the HOB310ECOLL mortiser, extraction and the electrical connection are all quoted separately from the machine.
