Decide the class before the model: hand-guided, powered-feed or automatic

Three classes of edge bander sit on this page, and the class decides most of the price. Hand-guided HOLZMANN machines – the 3 kg KAM50M, the 855 W KAM45PRO, the 765 W KAM55V and the KAM65PRO at 8.8 kg – run from a single-phase 230 V socket and are steered along the panel by the operator, which suits site work, repairs, curved fronts and low volume. The HOLZMANN KAM535NEO is the middle class: a stationary 400 V bander with its own 250 W feed at 0-15 m/min, a 1000 x 700 mm table and a 20 mm minimum inside radius. Everything above is an automatic one-sided machine with a chain conveyor and a fixed sequence of units.

The unit list, not the brand, sets the price

On an automatic edge bander the fitted units decide both quality and cost. Pre-milling recuts the sawn edge before glue is applied and is exactly what separates the MIZRAK MZK-4 at 4.02 kW from the OF MZK-4 at 7.02 kW with its 1.5 kW cutter at 12,000 rpm, and the HOLZMANN KAM35EP from the KAM35ESV. Automatic front and rear end cutting is the step the ADVANTAGE X SMALL has and the ADVANTAGE-3 does not. Scraping and polishing decide how the edge looks after trimming; corner rounding removes hand work on radiused fronts, to 36 mm on the ADVANTAGE-6 and to 42 mm on the OF-KA TUANA 56 PREMIUM; and a 2.6 kW grooving unit cuts the back-panel groove on the same pass, fitted to the ADVANTAGE-7 and the OF-KA TUANA 56 but not to the OF TUANA 56.

Panel thickness, tape and feed speed

Panel capacity separates the ranges cleanly: 8 to 42 mm on the HOLZMANN KAM4EPS and across the MIZRAK ADVANTAGE line, 8 to 54 mm on the MZK 4 and TUANA 56 machines, and 8 to 60 mm on the OF-KA TUANA 56 PREMIUM. Tape runs 0.4 to 3 mm. Feed speed is throughput rather than finish: 7 m/min on the KAM35P, 10 m/min across the ADVANTAGE range, 13 m/min on the KAM215 machines, 14 m/min on the MZK 4 family and 20 m/min on the flying-cut OF-KA MZK 4 WIND.

Power supply, floor length and extraction

Power supply splits this page in two. The portable HOLZMANN banders work on single-phase 230 V, while every automatic machine is a 400 V three-phase installation, from 3.62 kW on the ADVANTAGE-3 to 19.38 kW on the OF-KA TUANA 56 PREMIUM, so check the connected load of the exact model against the shop supply. Floor length is the frame length plus infeed and outfeed for the longest panel: 2500 mm for the ADVANTAGE-3, 3500 mm for the ADVANTAGE-4, 4900 mm for the ADVANTAGE-6 and 5900 to 7180 mm across the TUANA 56 machines. Trimming and pre-milling throw fine chip at every unit, so extraction is required; the KAM4EPS carries integrated dust collection and the ADVANTAGE-4 integrates extraction, while the longer machines connect to the shop system.

Entry, middle and top of the range

Control level is what the top of the range buys. The ADVANTAGE-3 and KAM35P are manually set entry machines; the TUANA 56 models add PLC screen control; the TUANA 56 X PLUS and ROYAL 8 EXTRA move to PC control with a servo pre-tracer, infrared pre-heating and a sensor-fed glue pot. Budget separately for EVA glue granulate, edge tape, spare trimming cutters and scraper blades, compressed air, extraction, delivery and installation; those, with the unit list and panel capacity, drive every quotation.
