The HOLZMANN DHM630PRO is a production thicknesser, not a bench machine: 630 mm planing width, 300 mm maximum thicknessing height and 656 kg net on a 1050 x 630 mm table. Those numbers put the DHM630PRO into glulam, stair-string and wide-panel work, where a 400 mm class machine forces a second pass and a glue line. The DHM630PRO takes an 8 mm cut in a single pass, which is what separates it from lighter thicknessers that top out at 3-5 mm.
Three motors, so the feed does not fight the cut
Drive on the DHM630PRO is split rather than shared. The 7000 W S1 main motor runs the 117 mm cutterhead with four planer knives at 5500 rpm; a separate 550 W feed motor holds feed speed constant from 4 to 16 m/min regardless of load; and a 250 W lifting motor raises and lowers the thicknessing table electrically. Electrics on the DHM630PRO are rated IP54, which matters in a dusty shop. The machine arrives with four 630 x 30 x 3 mm strip knives mounted plus an adjustment gauge.
Siting a 720 kg crated machine
Plan the delivery of the DHM630PRO before ordering it. Gross shipping weight is 720 kg in a 1220 x 1150 x 1300 mm crate, so unloading needs a forklift and the floor needs to carry the load without flexing. The DHM630PRO requires a 400V/3/50Hz supply and a Ø150 mm extraction connection with enough airflow for a four-knife head at full width. Minimum workpiece length is 280 mm; shorter pieces must be run on a sled or planed as part of a longer blank.
Straight knives or spiral
The DHM630PRO uses conventional strip knives, which are inexpensive to replace and quick to set with the supplied gauge. Shops planing figured hardwood or running long shifts should price the DHM630PROSMW4 spiral-head version against the DHM630PRO, since carbide inserts change the finish, the noise at the cut and the consumable cost profile.
