The NETMAK PL 400 is the narrowest of the three PL surface planers at 400 mm jointing width, and the lightest at 710 kg on an 800 mm wide footprint. Like the PL 500 and PL 600, the PL 400 runs 2600 mm tables, a 120 mm four-knife block at 4500 rpm on a 5.5 kW motor, and cuts up to 15 mm deep.
PL 400 pricing is driven by cutterblock choice (standard four-knife or the optional helical block), whether automatic table adjustment and the digital height indicator are added, and by delivery and installation of a 2600 mm long machine, which is often the deciding logistics cost.

The NETMAK PL 400 creates the first flat face and the first square edge on rough timber, the reference surfaces every later operation depends on. Total table length is 2600 mm, split into a 1420 mm infeed table and an 1180 mm outfeed table, which is long enough to support a 3 metre door stile without a roller stand under each end. A 120 mm cutterblock with four knives runs at 4500 rpm on a 7.5 HP / 5.5 kW motor, and the PL 400 will take up to 15 mm of material in a single pass on stock up to 400 mm wide.
Who the PL 400 suits
The PL 400 fits joinery and door workshops that machine long solid-timber sections rather than sheet material. Long tables are the whole argument for this class of machine: a short-bed planer produces a banana out of a 2.5 metre length no matter how carefully it is fed, while the 2600 mm bed of the PL 400 holds the workpiece flat through the cut. At 710 kg, the PL 400 is also the lightest and narrowest of the three NETMAK PL models, which matters in shops where floor space is tight.
PL 400 against the PL 500 and PL 600
All three NETMAK surface planers share the same 2600 mm table length, 1420 mm infeed and 1180 mm outfeed split, 15 mm depth of cut, four-knife 120 mm block, 4500 rpm spindle and 7.5 HP / 5.5 kW motor. They differ only in width and mass: the PL 400 gives 400 mm and 710 kg over an 800 x 2600 x 1250 mm footprint, the PL 500 gives 500 mm and 770 kg, the PL 600 gives 600 mm and 880 kg. Choose the PL 400 when the work is framing timber, door and window sections and furniture rails; step up if wide glued panels have to be faced.
What is included with the PL 400
Every PL 400 is supplied with a monoblock steel body, an electromechanical brake, two dedicated hand and knife guards, a cast fence that tilts through 45 degrees, and four knives on the 120 mm block. Optional on the PL 400 are a digital height indicator, automatic table adjustment and a helical cutterblock. Chip extraction, a power feed unit and knife-setting equipment are not included and are usually specified alongside the machine.
