The HOLZMANN ABS850 is the smallest sensible extractor for a woodworking machine rather than a hand tool: 850 m³/h and 800 Pa of vacuum from a 750 W S1 (1050 W S6) motor on a standard 230V/50Hz socket, through a Ø100 mm port. The ABS850 is aimed at a single machine at a time – a bandsaw, a spindle moulder, a small planer – and delivers that performance from a low space requirement, weighing just 23 kg net.
Quiet enough to stand next to
Noise is the ABS850’s quiet advantage over larger units: sound power is 78 dB(A) and sound pressure 76.6 dB(A), measurably lower than the 85 dB(A) of the bigger ABS models. In a one-man shop where the extractor stands a metre from the operator, that difference is felt over a full working day. The 230 mm fan wheel is what keeps the ABS850 both compact and moderate in noise.
Bag capacity sets the working rhythm
Plan around the 40 litre chip bag on the ABS850, which measures 280 mm in diameter and 900 mm long. Forty litres fills fast under a planer, so the ABS850 suits intermittent machining better than continuous stock removal, and spare bags belong on the first order. Emptying is a two-minute job, but it is a job that recurs.
When to step up from the ABS850
The ABS850 is correctly specified for one Ø100 mm machine port at a time and a short hose run. If the shop plans a 300 mm-plus planer, a wide bandsaw, or two machines running together, the ABS1500FF at 1500 m³/h or the three-outlet ABS3000SE at 3000 m³/h is the honest recommendation – undersized extraction is the most common false economy in a small joinery.
